Opening Day

May the 4th is upon us and the Langley Farmers Market is opening at our new location!

The weather will be cooler than today with some clouds, but there will be no rain. YAY!  The market is open between 1-5 PM.

Public parking is available.  If you’re planning to hang out and stay for a while, please park at the Island Church parking lot kitty-corner from the market.  If you’re making a “quick” stop at the market, feel free to park in the adjacent parking area.  Restrooms are available across the parking lot in the Community Center gym building (old Middle School gym).

Come on out and enjoy the bounty from our local farms, makers and bakers!

PS.  If you’re interested in vending at the market as a drop-in or a regular vendor, please contact Ben at secondstreetmarket@whidbey.com

Changes

The 2018 season is less than 1 month away.  We open Friday May 4th in a brand new location and under a new name to go along with it.  Since we’re no longer setting up shop on 2nd St, we are now the Langley Farmers Market.  Our new location is at the corner of 6th st, Cascade Ave and Camano Ave next to WICA and the old school bus barn.  Our new hours will be 1-5 PM.  We’re still accepting new vendors of all types.

In partnership with the South Whidbey Community Center, and with the blessings of the South Whidbey School District, WICA, Island Church and the City of Langley, the Friday market will be able to grow and utilize an otherwise desolate parking lot.  We’ll have room to grow, and more room for our patrons to park.

Being at the geographic center of Langley at perhaps it’s busiest intersection, we will have more visibility and less impact on the community compared to our old location.  Certainly we will miss the atmosphere of being in the street, but we have an opportunity to create a new atmosphere by adding to a location that is the cultural center of South Whidbey.

See you all at the new market!

End of the season

It is 9/29 and the last day of the 2017 market season is upon us.  A big thanks to all of our regular market customers, visitors and our neighbors for another great year on second street.  Hopefully what rain we do get will be lite, but we’ve had no rain on the market the whole season, so I guess we can handle one rainy market day.

Market continues…

The Langley Market continues through Friday September 29th.  Even though the berries have come to the close of their season, our farmers are now featuring some delicious fall staples in like squash, corn and apples.  As usual, the live music starts at 3 and goes through 5.

Make sure to checkout the great lunch specials at Useless Bay Coffee, The Braeburn and The Commons.  The pad thai at The Commons is especially good.

Morning rain…Nice afternoon

Well that was a fun and surprising gully washer!  It has been four months since the last big rain like that.  Bottom line:  The market weather should be dry and around 70 degrees with a chance for sun.

9817 radar
The UW Atmospheric Sciences NW Radar

The radar at 9:27 am shows the rain moving off to the NNE towards Bellingham and into Canada.  There are a few showers off the coast, but nothing threatening us anymore.  The front will bring some onshore flow and marine clouds that might not burn off this afternoon, but it will still be about 70 degrees during the market.

So hooray for the rain!  The trees  really needed that.  We’ll see you at the market!
